Don Reitz has played a major roll in influencing ceramics and is one of the most important and well known ceramists of this century. He studied art education at Kutztown State College, where he received a B.S. He then went to further his education at Alfred University in the early 1960's and received his MFA. He has spent a great deal of time salt firing as well as firing his work in a wood kiln. In the 1980's he started to explore with low-fire slips and glazes on work made out of a black clay body. In 2002 Don was awarded the American Craft Council Gold Medal. You can find his work in a number of museums and galleries.
